Retirement Leads to Giving Time and Dollars
Putting a smile on someone's face brings Carol Hansen joy. In her retirement, Carol volunteers for many organizations, including Second Harvest Heartland, her church and Como Zoo. She loves seeing the smiles of kids on the carousel at Como Park and the gratitude of individuals receiving food and clothing.
"As long as I can still do stuff, I will," Carol said, "I like to keep busy and it's important to give to people that need it, both with my time and financially."
Along with volunteering, Carol has been a long-time supporter of Second Harvest Heartland through donations and in her retirement through planned giving. Her increased investment came after visiting the main distribution center and was impressed by the scale of the work that we do.
"There are a lot of people that can't afford the good meals that they need and it's important support the places that can help with that," said Carol. "After my tour, I just felt like Second Harvest Heartland was an important place to give."
Planned giving helps support our work to end hunger for years to come. For more information on how you can give through a planned gift visit 2harvest.myplannedgift.org.
